Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about HomeTrak — features, pricing, security, and getting started.
What is HomeTrak?
HomeTrak is a home maintenance tracking app that helps you keep track of all your home assets (appliances, vehicles, HVAC, plumbing, etc.), schedule maintenance tasks, log service history, and manage costs. Think of it as a digital maintenance log for your entire household.
Who is HomeTrak for?
HomeTrak is designed for everyday homeowners who want to stay on top of home maintenance. Whether you own a single home or manage multiple properties, HomeTrak helps you organize everything in one place so nothing falls through the cracks.
What types of assets can I track?
You can track any maintainable asset including appliances (refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers), HVAC systems (furnace, AC, heat pump), water heaters and plumbing, vehicles (cars, trucks, boats), lawn equipment, pools and hot tubs, roofing, siding, and structural elements, and electrical systems and generators.
Is HomeTrak free to use?
Yes! HomeTrak offers a generous free tier that includes up to 5 assets, 1 location, and 2 team members. For most homeowners getting started, the free plan is plenty to begin organizing your home maintenance.
What do the paid plans include?
Premium (from $2.99/mo or $29.99/year): Unlimited assets, 1 location, 5 team members, AI data plate scanning, AI recommendations, unlimited provider searches, Google Calendar sync, and priority support. Pro (from $12.99/mo or $129.99/year): Everything in Premium plus multiple locations and unlimited team members. Save 16% with annual billing — 2 months free!
Can I cancel anytime?
Absolutely. You can cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings. There are no cancellation fees or long-term commitments.
How does maintenance scheduling work?
You create maintenance tasks for each asset and set them as one-time or recurring (monthly, quarterly, annually, etc.). HomeTrak tracks due dates and shows upcoming tasks on your Dashboard so you never miss a service date. You can also set priority levels from Low to Critical.
Can I store documents like manuals and receipts?
Yes! You can upload files or add links to each asset. Store owner's manuals, purchase receipts, warranty documents, and service records all in one place. No more digging through drawers to find that warranty card.
What is data plate scanning?
HomeTrak uses AI to read the data plate on your appliances. Just take a photo of the label (usually on the back or side of the appliance), and our system automatically extracts the manufacturer, model number, and serial number. It even suggests a link to find the owner's manual online.
Does HomeTrak suggest maintenance tasks for me?
Yes! HomeTrak can automatically search for your product's owner's manual online and use AI to extract the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule. Even if it can't find the manual, it generates smart recommendations based on your specific make and model.
Does HomeTrak sync with my calendar?
Yes! HomeTrak integrates with Google Calendar. Once connected, you can push maintenance tasks to your calendar and set up customizable reminders so you're always prepared ahead of time.
Can I share access with my family?
Yes! You can invite household members by email and assign them roles: Owner (full access), Member (can view and edit assets, tasks, and work orders), or Viewer (read-only access).
Can I manage multiple properties?
Yes, with the Pro plan you can add multiple locations such as your primary home, rental properties, vacation houses, or any other property. Each location has its own set of assets, tasks, and team members.
Is my data secure?
Yes. All data transfers use encrypted connections, and your information is stored securely. We never share your personal data with third parties.
Can I export my data?
Yes! The Reports page lets you export your service history and maintenance data as PDF reports or CSV files. You can use these for your own records, tax documentation, or when selling your home.
Does HomeTrak work on my phone?
Yes! HomeTrak is designed mobile-first and works great on any device. You can also install it as a Progressive Web App (PWA) on your phone or tablet for quick access without needing to open a browser.
What are work orders?
Work orders are like trouble tickets for unexpected repairs or service needs. Unlike scheduled tasks, work orders are for when something breaks or needs immediate attention. You can track the issue from report through completion, assign service providers, and log costs.
How does cost tracking and forecasting work?
Every time you complete a task or work order, you can log the actual cost. HomeTrak tracks your year-to-date spending and projects annual maintenance costs based on your scheduled tasks. The Forecast page gives you month-by-month projections broken down by asset.
Are there pre-built maintenance templates?
Yes! HomeTrak includes maintenance templates for common home systems and appliances. When you add an asset, you can load a template with recommended tasks for that category and add them all at once.
Can HomeTrak help me find contractors and service providers?
Yes! The Service Directory lets you save trusted contractors and repair companies. You can also search for nearby providers by category (plumber, electrician, HVAC, etc.) and save them directly. Free users get 2 searches per month, and paid plans include unlimited searches.
Can I store photos of my home assets?
Yes! Each asset has a dedicated photo gallery where you can upload images to document the item's condition, installation, serial number labels, or anything else useful. Photos are stored securely in the cloud and accessible from any device.
